Importance of Directions in Vastu

Every Vastu analysis begins with orientation. The direction a plot faces, where the sun rises and sets relative to the building, and how each room is positioned within that frame all shape the recommendations that follow.

Each of the four cardinal directions is traditionally associated with particular qualities: north with growth and opportunity, east with clarity and new beginnings, south with strength and stability, and west with results and completion.

These associations aren't treated as literal forces but as a structured way of thinking about which functions benefit from morning light, which need shelter from harsh afternoon sun, and which are best placed away from a home's primary circulation.

A directional assessment typically uses a compass reading taken on-site, cross-checked against the building's actual construction, since apparent and true orientation can differ.
